Meet the New Owners

Shannon Martin

Born and raised in Longmont, CO. She had great success in rodeo, volleyball, and basketball. Roping and training horses was, and still is, her passion. In 2020, she entered an online Massage Therapy school and graduated with honors. Sandhills Therapeutic Massage is the name of her business in Valentine, Nebraska.

Jackie Qualley

Born and raised on a cattle ranch south of Cody, NE. Her family participated in 4-H, and she showed cats, dogs, cattle, and horses. Her mother taught her the art of training horses, which is her passion. She had two rural mail contracts for nearly twenty years and ran them for a living.

Jackie also wrote, All the Way, Dally Up, which is available at the office. The book is an uplifting, unforgettable story of a Borgi, his unique family, and intertwined destinies.

The two women met in 2002 and went into business together, training roping and ranch horses, then selling them for profit. A friend told them the Lord Ranch Resort was being offered for private sale, and they jumped at the chance to purchase their dream and became owners of the Lord Ranch Resort on July 15, 2022.

Testimonials

  • Jackie is very friendly & hospitable. She made sure we had everything we needed for our stay! She brought us firewood for the firepit and even brought us briquettes & lighter fluid so we could cook out on the grill! This is an excellent place to escape the hustle bustle & recharge! Thank you Jackie for a great weekend!!

  • Thank you so much for providing us with a clean and quiet place to stay while hunting in the area. It was so nice to have a comfortable place that felt like home after a long day in the field. Your T-Bone steaks were amazing last night too! Thank you! We are looking forward to trying the jam back in Ohio and thank you for the prayer packets. Hope this winter isn’t as harsh for you and the wildlife this year. Until next time, many blessings from the Phillips’.

  • 5 stars all around. The place is quiet but not too far from town (Valentine) so you can get gas, beer, food. The owners/hosts are just so kind. And the rooms are fantastic. All I needed was hot water, a shower, and a stove to cook my dinner, and they had it all in the cabin. Me and my two pups stayed there for one night but I wish I could have stayed for longer. If I'm back this way, I'll definitely be booking here.

  • Stayed at the cabins while doing a motorcycle tour of the sandhills. The location was beautiful, the rooms were very nice, and the host was great. Easy ride ride from Hwy 83, little more rough coming from Merritt Reservoir, but worth it to ride Hwy 97 and eat at the Prairie Club.

  • Loved this amazing place. Our cabin was wonderful and had all we needed for our stay. The land, the sunsets and sunrises were breathtaking. The hosts were gracious, kind and hospitable in every sense. We most definitely will go back to enjoy more of the beauty, calmness and quietness and wild life and cows and horses in the area.

  • We arrived back home in Illinois after a loop out to Scotts Bluff and back through North Platte. We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin and wish we could have stayed longer. It was a real thrill to hear the loons calling and the prairie chickens booming at twilight. You have a beautiful setting there and we enjoyed our visit with you. It was great to spend time in the sandhills after a long absence.

  • I reserved a cabin for my husband, son and his boys. My family said it was a wonderful experience sitting under the stars, cooking on an open fire. Room was very clean and furnished. We are definitely coming back.

  • I visited your ranch resort in June for two nights (only planning to stay one night). Your wonderful generosity and beautiful ranch and home have stayed with me since I left. I can never thank you enough. From the moment I saw the rainbow as I turned east on the road to your ranch I knew I had chosen the perfect place to stay for the night. I will always hold aspects of my trip in my heart. You and your ranch as well as the entire area around Valentine will remain with me forever.

  • My father in-law and I had a great time. Your cabins are really nice and accommodating. We really had a great time fishing. The pike weren’t biting the best, we only caught five. But the bass fishing was really good on West Long. I think in two afternoons we caught around 140 bass. Only 6 were over 15 inches but the majority were 12-14 inches. Anyway it was a great time and I just wanted to extend my thanks.

  • This place is a gem. If you're looking for a place to stay while you're fishing at Merrit, on your way to Sturgis, during hunting season, or whatever, look no further. This place is SO CLEAN and SO COMFORTABLE. Each cabin has it's own kitchen, comfy beds, and recliner. The property is so clean and there rocking chairs and a firepit. Its definitely a serene escape and a home away from home. Will definitely be returning and would definitely recommend.
