Here in the beautiful Sandhills of Nebraska, we are fortunate enough to have a variety of wildlife for our viewing enjoyment year round. Here is a life of some of the birds that we have seen lately and invite you to see.

American Bittern, Western Kingbird, Barn Swallow, Red-Winged Blackbird, Horned Lark, Tree Swallow, Yellow-headed Blackbird Mallard, Trumpeter Swan, American Coot, Western and Eastern Hybrids Meadow Lark, Double-Crested Cormorant, Baltimore Oriole, Blue-Winged Teal, Morning Dove, Orchard Oriole, Black Tern, Brown-Headed Cowbird, White Pelican, Red-Headed Woodpecker, Cattle Egret, Wilson's Phalarope, Common Flicker, Ring-Necked Pheasant, American Goldfinch, Northern Pintail Grouse, Canada Goose, American Robin, Common Crackle, Upland Sandpiper, Great Blue Heron, Northern Shoveler, White-Faced Ibis, Chipping Sparrow, Killdeer, House Sparrow, Eastern KIngbird, Lark Sparrow.

If you look closely you will also be able to spot a Whitetail deer, but look quick otherwise all you will see is the white of their tail as they flag a warning to anyone around. We are also lucky to have several turkeys that like to take flight and land in some of the trees around Lord Ranch. Keep an eye up and your ears open and you will be sure to spot them.

After the welcomed rainfall the Sandhills are alive with a variety of blooming flowers and aesthetic odors.  In the evening, the pleasant odor of nut sedge is permeating the our wetland site.

Hello Dorothy,

We arrived back home in Illinois after a loop out to Scotts Bluff and back through North Platte.  We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin and wish we could have stayed longer.  It was a real thrill to hear the loons calling and the prairie chickens booming at twilight. You have a beautiful setting there and we enjoyed our visit with you. It was great to spend time in the sandhills after a long absence.

Sincerely,
Doug Young
